Eleanor went in for her tracheotomy at around 11:45 this morning. She was in there for about 45 minutes. The doctor tells us it went quite well.
We were able to see Ellie back in her bed at around 1 pm. She was resting peacefully, and we were able to see her entire face. She is now coming off the anesthesia and will be resting and healing. They will not try her off the vent for a few days we don't think.
Praise God for a successful surgery!

ReplyDeleteEmily and Adam and your entire family -
ReplyDeleteI have had you in my thoughts and prayers all morning. So glad surgery could be done today, and I will give thanks to God for a sucessful surgery and that answer of prayer. My prayers will continue for Ellie and each of you.
It is soooo good to see her beautiful face, those sweet little cheeks!
Continue to rest in God's promises! Your story is touching hearts and lives and God is being glorified through it.
Good Afternoon Emily & Adam - So glad to hear the surgery is OVER. Every time I thought of you this morning I whispered a prayer. What an adorable kissable sweet face Ellie has and now you can even get closer to her ears to whisper sweet love messages to her. Thanks for updating us so quickly so we can ask God for the next step - healing.
ReplyDeleteOur Thoughts and Prayers are with you. Hugs The Helders - Marv & Donna

ReplyDeleteFor Ellie:
ReplyDeleteI would rather be what God chose to make me than the most glorious creature I could think of; for to have been thought about, born in God's thought, and then made by God, is the dearest, grandest, and most precious thing in all thinking. -- by George MacDonald
You are the strongest people I know. God will help you through, 1 day at a time.
ReplyDeleteMy prayers are with you.
Yaaay for a successful surgery!! Answer to prayer. She looks more comfortable now. I peaked in. She was all snuggled up. We'll pray that there will be more and more and more positives in the next few days. See you again soon. Thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteKerry forwarded your need for prayer. I have been in your shoes. My daughter is now 9 and has also had a trach for over 8 years. I was also told that I would face pneumonia over and over as my child slowly faded. Please don't buy into it. There is hope and beauty at the end of this path. My daughter is healthy and strong. Here is a copy of the email I sent Kerry:
ReplyDeleteKerry,
Know my prayers are with them. Please reassure them that the doctors don't really know their babies future abilities. All they can quote is statistics and text books. Plus MOST intensivist do not see any of their patients beyond about 1 year. So they don't have a real grasp of what a child can do. The future of that little girl will depend mostly on God and herself. And some on what the family does with and for the child.
Sorry if I sound like I am on a soapbox... I am. I have been there in the same spot as that family. That was 8 years ago... The doctors said my daughter was in a vegetative state, she was blind and completely unaware of things around her. And the only fair thing for her and my family was to put her in a home. They were wrong!!! In all parts!! She was never vegetative just unable to respond in a way they recognized. She was blind but got her sight back within months of going home, it came slowly but now she has full sight. She is a quadriplegic with a trach (no vocal abilities). She signs with one hand and mouths no. She is reading and loves to swim. She has all the same interest, likes and dislikes as any other 9 year old girl. And she is the most beautiful thing that ever happened to our family.
If you want, print this out for the family, give them our contact information and tell them they are NOT alone! There is much hope and beauty waiting for them! I promise!
Prayers,
KelLee
My daughter is number 4 out of soon to be 7 children! I am due with our 7th in about a month. Please hang onto the Lord's hand, always choose life and always trust what your heart and soul tells you! Not the statistics and doctors. God and the Holy Spirit will always help you to make the right decisions for your little beauty.
If you need any love, support, information, someone to cry to... please e-mail. I will be here for you always.
PS really look at getting her food delivery changed to her stomach. The trach will protect her airway from reflux, etc... And it is easier to manage a child when the g-tube is only a g-tube, not a g-tube nissen.
I'm sorry this is so long... I have so much information I would love to share. But only when you are ready.
Prayers and blessings to you all!
KelLee
