Introducing Hannah Grace

Hannah: favored grace

We chose the name Hannah because we knew no matter the outcome that God in his loving grace had chosen this path for our family. Believe me, we will need the daily reminder!

I was laboring all day yesterday and by evening it was getting painful. We arrived at the hospital (me, Adam, Mom and Ellie). I was in active labor at 5-6 cm. I was prepped for the c-section and at 12:06 on August 7, Hannah Grace was born.

Hannah did not try to take a breath after birth and was intubated. She was clearly floppy right away, with some similar signs to me and Adam: floppy legs, wrist drop, curving in feet. Wow, it is hard to describe the moment that my prayers went from "please crying baby, please crying baby" to just "breathing baby."

Hannah was settled into the NICU and I into recovery. After an hour or so they were able to wheel me (along with Adam, Ellie and Mom) to the NICU to visit Hannah Grace. The sights and sounds were so familiar- in both a good and bad way really. Hannah was stable, breathing on a ventilator but not needing any O2.

I've been down there again this morning and she is still stable. They have turned down her vent settings a little and she has done well, so that is a good thing. At this point it is assumed that she has what Ellie has. We are just praying that she will have a lesser form.

Please pray that she will not need a trach. That is such a burden and we would love to be spared everything that goes with having a trach. Please pray that Hannah would continue to improve, whether it is in little ways over what Ellie has, or in huge ways too.

We're all still in shock here. It is hard to express emotions and disappointment.

  22. Looking forward to seeing pictures of Ellie's beautiful baby sister Hannah! While I'm of course sorry she has health issues similar to Ellie's, I know God gave two loving, caring, wonderful parents two beautiful baby girls who needed some special care. Will continue to pray for you and your girls and their big brothers, too!

  23. Guys,

We are praying for you. We cannot wait to meet little Hannah. I remember the love we had for the other three when we first met- and we look forward to meeting Hannah.

Of course, we will continue to pray, and seek God's grace and mercy concerning the medical problems. But remember- a gracious savior got you through this before, and he can do it again.

    With love.

  24. I just posted a request for prayers for Hannah and Ellie and the rest of your beautiful family on my blog: Krys' World (http://krysworld.blogspot.com/2009/08/someone-needs-your-prayers.html). Please don't read the rest of the fluff - I think this post is the most important one I've ever written.

Congratulations on this sweet blessing. Hannah is precious in God's eyes and His purposes for her - for all of us - are clear to Him. We are praying for all of you!
Emily - please try to not overdo (so easy for a busy Mom). A pillow over your incision is the best way to lessen pain from coughing, sneezing, laughing, etc.

  42. Adam & Emily, I haven't met you but have heard of you from others in the area and my husband knows you (Steve Carr). My tears go out for you, how difficult this must be. And yet, how awesome to think that the Lord has ordained this for your good; may He continue to grow you and give you and your family strength. May He provide healing to your precious little girls.

  43. My sister Tammy told me about your family when Ellie was born. How happy I am that God has blessed you with little Hannah and I applaud your faithfulness to Christ which NEVER returns void. Lift your eyes! He will bless you both as you raise your family for his service. God is mighty and will give you strength for the days ahead. He will cover you with his feathers. May he use these lives of these precious girls to break the stony hearts around you. May he give you joy and healing in this time of weariness and disappointment. Nothing - not one thing is impossible with our God. We are praying for you night and day.
